Acclaimed violinist Andrew Bernardi, visited MCM College and GE Music Class

Prof Kit Thompson welcomes Andrew Bernardi during his visit to MCM College

Exploring ‘music- making’ possibilities in Macao with the Master, Prof Kit Thompson

Bursting with energy after a visit to MC2Fitness

Acclaimed violinist, educator, international music promoter/entrepreneur, and founder of arts festivals around the world, Andrew Bernardi, visited MCM College recently to explore music making possibilities in Macao with the Master, Prof Kit Thompson. He brought with him his priceless Stradivarius Violin dated 1696, and offered to play and demonstrate this precious and rare violin to students. He uses a violin bow formerly owned by Lord Yehudi Menuhin, but as this is prohibited from international travel due to its fragility, he had brought along his second-best bow.
Thus on the way to the Ferry Terminal, he made a surprise visit to Dr Patricia Thompson’s GE Music Class, which delighted and entranced student members. He kindly performed two pieces by English composers:

Ralph Vaughan Williams: The Lark Ascending (1914)

Edward Elgar: Salut d’Amour (1888)

He also generously answered many questions from the students eg how old was he when he began learning the violin, how many hours a day did he practise, how much the Stradivarius was bought for and what is it worth today.

He also gave excellent career advice to the class, about aiming to be the best in your class, whilst in addition developing a USP (Unique Selling Point).

After his departure to the Ferry Terminal, the class continued the discussion, expressing delight in hearing his beautiful and expert performance, and being unanimous in wanting to hear him perform again on his next visit to Macao.
