The Choir of Clare College, University of Cambridge

.

It is Michaelmas Term, and the fourth Tuesday evening of September 2019, when MCM College Master, Professor Kit Thompson and Dr. Patricia Thompson, Supernumerary Fellow, received distinguished guests, fellows and freshmen to a magnificent: Commencement High Table with the Choir of Clare College, University of Cambridge, a black-tie event where members of College and guests donned academic robes and undergrads wore Sub Fusc or evening dress. College Hall had a most charming setting and atmosphere - one that was conducive to concentration and ideal for the exchange of views and insights as well as suave musical performances.

The college was delighted to host a three-day residency for Clare College Choir University of Cambridge, during its 2019 tour of the Far East. The Choir began Tuesday morning with an Open Rehearsal in College Hall, (attended by UM students, faculty, friends and supporters of the College) and now as special guests for a Sung High Table.

The Choir of Clare College has gained an international reputation as one of UK’s leading collegiate choirs, directed by Graham Ross, which keeps an active schedule recording, broadcasting, and performing throughout the United Kingdom and the world, including in the United States of America, Japan, China, Russia, the Middle East and throughout Europe. In 2000, it became the first Oxbridge mixed-voice choir to perform at BBC Proms, singing Bach’s St John Passion.

The residency enables a choral master class, and opportunity to come to know top undergrads, Cambridge dons, researchers and innovative artists.

Distinguished guests at High Table included:

· Ambassador Paulo Cunha Alves, Consul General, Portugal Consulate General Hong Kong and Macao
· Mrs Frances Moffett-Kouadio, Director of Trade & Investment, British Consulate General Hong Kong and Macao
