MCM College: “Relax Your Mind” Expressive Art Workshop




Recently, Moon Chun Memorial College has held two sessions of “Relax Your Mind” Expressive Art Workshops to help students reduce stress. These workshops were facilitated by the college’s social worker, Shasta Leong. The facilitator started the workshop with guided mediation which helped the participants to relax their minds. Next, the participants were invited to authentically share their current thoughts and emotions through expressive art cards. Under the facilitator’s guidance, the participants created colored-salt paintings to express their live experiences. This is a healing process as the sensory experience allowed the mind to relax, easing thoughts and feelings as the focus moves to the physical sensations. In just one and a half hour, the participants experienced, expressed and explored the journey of their lives. This expressive art experience allowed the participants to let go, create safe space, feel what moved them and see what unfolded. Meanwhile, the facilitator witnessed the creative process, encouraged the participants to express themselves and share their experiences.
