紹邦書院講座—生活中潛藏的生命醫學秘密
三月六日，澳門大學健康科學學院王麗博士蒞臨紹邦書院主持講座, 題目是“生活中潛藏的生命醫學秘密”，吸引了約60名同學出席。
王麗博士首先介紹了現代分子生物醫學的奠基石—聚合酶連鎖反應(PCR)。此技術廣泛應用於克隆技術、法醫學、遠古DNA鑑定、病原體鑑定及轉基因植物等領域。王博士重點講解在法醫學上，如何用PCR進行罪犯識別、親子鑑定以及人的性別鑑定。此外，坴亦介紹了癌症穿刺活檢、肥胖如何引發炎症導致胰島素抵抗等等。王博士耐心地解釋了很多有趣的醫學秘密，探視如何用科學的角度健康地生活，讓同學獲益良多。
紹邦書院致力舉辦科學發展前沿系列講座，鼓勵同學以科學角度探索未知的世界，曾介紹的主題包括﹕OMEGA-3如何預防認知功能衰退、阿茲海默症的研究進展、人工智能的迷思與真相、幹細胞和克隆技術的發展等。
Seminar Talk at Shiu Pong College:
The Hidden Biomedical Secrets in Our Life
On March 6, 2019, Dr. Li Wang of the Faculty of Health Sciences was invited to deliver a seminar talk on "The Hidden Biomedical Secrets in our Life". Around 60 SPCers participated in this seminar.
Dr. Wang introduced the topic by mentioning Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), which is the foundation of modern molecular biomedical sciences. PCR is widely used in cloning, forensic science, detection of ancient DNA, detection of viral infection, and identification of transgenic plants, etc. Dr. Li then focused on forensic science, introducing the application of PCR in criminal identification, paternity testing and gender identification of human beings. In addition, she introduced cancer biopsy detection, and how obesity-induced inflammation leads to insulin resistance. During the seminar talk, Dr. Wang explained a lot of interesting biomedical secrets, inspiring students to pursue health living from a scientific perspective. Students have surely benefited from the talk which is so rich in contents.
Aiming to popularize cutting-edge scientific discoveries and technology among students, SPC has organized a seminar-talk series on a vast range of topics which are not yet available in textbooks. These topics include: how Omega-3 prevents cognitive dysfunctions, current research on Alzheimer’s disease, the misconceptions and truth of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the development of stem cells and cloning technology, etc.
