Speaker:
Prof. Yeng DONG is Professor of Political Science at the U.S. Naval Academy and currently Visiting Professor at the University of Hong Kong. He also recently held visiting positions at the Nobel Institute in Norway and Rajaratnam School of International Studies in Singapore. Abstract:
Sino-U.S. competition had long been anticipated, but how it has unfolded under the Trump administration has caught many by surprise. The trade war has proven costly to both economies and has spilled over into other domains. What is the logic behind the return of great power politics? Who caused the breakdown of decades of engagement? How have the two sides approached the rivalry? It is opportune to take stock of what has happened and ask where the Sino-American relationship is heading.
