MCM College Presents “A Sweet Taste of Malaysia” Cultural Exchange Night

On 27 February, a group of Malaysian students at Moon Chun Memorial College initiated a cultural exchange night activity named, “A Sweet Taste of Malaysia” which attracted thirty participants. Upon arrival, each participant was welcomed by a Malaysian drink, “Milo Dinosaur”. It is composed of iced Milo (a chocolate malt beverage) with undissolved Milo powder added on top of it. After that, our Associate College Master, Dr. Noronha delivered a welcome speech and showed appreciation to our Malaysian guest speakers, Mr. Mark Wong (ELC Senior Instructor) and Mr Phoon Shiuh Jer (UM 4th Year Student). They both felt honoured to represent their country and share Malaysian language, culture and food with our students through interactive talks and games.

After their sharings, the Malaysian students took the participants to the dining hall for making two traditional desserts, Onde-onde and Burbur Cha Cha. Onde-onde is a traditional green-coloured balls of rice cake filled with liquid palm sugar and coated in grated coconut. Burbur Cha Cha is a popular local dessert filled with yam, sweet potatoes, pearled sago in a warm coconut broth. While making the desserts together, the participants chatted with the Malaysian students and knew each other more. One participants shared that this was his first time to taste such delicious Malaysian desserts. Another participant shared that it was a new and interesting experience for her to make Malaysian desserts by herself. After all, this activity was a great success with the joint effort of Malaysian students from different residential colleges and the enthusiastic participation of our college students.
