CKPC Visit to Pou Lei Centre

Chao Kuang Piu College made a visit to Pou Lei Centre of Fuhong Society of Macau on 27 November 2019. Ms Ching, a social worker of the organization, showed the teacher and students around passionately, introducing the history and details about the centre to them. A superb collection of handicrafts attract students’ attention: elegant and elaborate clay buildings, vivid and lovely animal figures, pretty brooches made of silk flowers, exquisite paintings drawn with 0.38mm pens……which are all works of members in Pou Lei Centre! All members were happy to see the visitors, welcoming them by waving hands. Some members even shook hands with visitors on their own initiative to express their enthusiasm. Students were amazed at members’ talent. On one hand they appreciated that they have sound minds. On the other hand, they found themselves lacking enthusiasm since they are rather introverted in interpersonal communication and said they couldn’t make the handicrafts as well as the members.

After visiting, students had an activity with members in the activity room. They taught members to make dragonfly with sticks, beads and small accessories patiently and confidently as they previously learned how to do it in the college. Though some of the members couldn’t understand what students had said or were easily distracted, they finally finished their work successfully with the assistance of students. Then students presented members with planet lights which represents the plant tribes in CKPC. Members were all surprised and happy. Lastly, members and students took pictures together and this visit ended with smiling faces and expression of gratitude.

It’s the first time for the most of students to visit a centre designed for the mentally handicapped and they think it meaningful. “There is a crack in everything, that’s how light gets in” It is a wish of the students that everyone could appreciate and embrace others’ differences and uniqueness.
