Dear colleagues,
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing away of the 5
th
Rector of the University of Macau (UM), Prof. Mário Nascimento Ferreira, in Lisbon, Portugal, on 27 January 2020, and express our deepest condolences to the grieving family.
Prof. Mário Nascimento Ferreira, a full professor in Medicine from the New University of Lisbon
,
was Vice Rector of UM between 1992 and 1994 and Rector between 1994 and 1997. During his mandate, the University became a member of the Association of Portuguese Speaking Universities (AULP), and submitted most of its bachelor and master programmes for recognition in Portugal, through the Portuguese Council of Rectors and the Ministry of Education. Portugal and the European Union started recognizing such programmes internationally since 1997
