MCM College: “Mindfulness” Stress Reduction Workshop

When the students go through University lives, they may face academic, interpersonal and family pressure, causing different emotional and physical issues. To help students cope with stress better, MCM College invited UM psychological counsellor, Mr. Sam Lei to hold four sessions of mindfulness stress reduction workshop between 3rd November and 4th December 2019 . In this workshop, the counsellor introduced the basic concept of mindfulness, clarified the myths of mindfulness and explained the benefits of mindfulness to the participants. He also provided guided instructions for the participants to experience five senses exercises, e.g. eating grapes, mindful breathing, body scanning and mindful walking etc.. Through learning mind-body techniques, participants began to relate to the stress and anxiety in life differently in ways that allow for more creative solutions and possibilities.

“We’ve learnt bringing the ‘present moment’ into focus, letting go of the past and future.” said Benson Lin. “I think that when we live in the moment and treat everything whole heartedly, we can create greater peace and calm in all areas of our lives.”
“Mindfulness is living in the moment, experiencing all its elements, ‘bad’ and ‘good’, accepting it as it comes, and developing a full awareness of our experiences, whatever they are.” said Helen Geng. “This workshop opened my heart and awakened my awareness, allowing me to pay full attention to everyone and everything that I encounter in life.”
