Abstract:
A countercultural literary account on how an Asian American poet and writer weaves strands of western literature, Beat Generation influences, and diasporic pilgrimages (Faxian) with word and image: all graphics, archival material from Allen Ginsberg, photos and text montage by American Book Award & PEN Josephine Miles Poetry recipient Prof. Russell C. Leong 梁志英。
Biography:
Prof. Russell C. Leong 梁志英 is a poet, short story writer, academic editor, and former professor of English and Asian American Studies at UCLA. For 33 years, Prof. Leong edited the foremost journal on Asian American Studies, AMERASIA JOURNAL, and currently is the editor of CUNY FORUM, for the City University of New York, NYC. He edited the first anthologies on Asian American sexualities and on Asian Pacific Media and film. Prof. Leong's own work includes: Phoenix Eyes and Other Stories (University of Washington Press) which garnered an American Book award, and The Country of Dreams and Dust (West End Press) recipient of the PEN Josephine Miles Award for poetry. Prof. Leong's creative work has been published in Nanjing, Taipei, Hong Kong, and Shanghai, and the U.S., and is included in major collections of American literature edited by Ishmael Reed. Prof. Leong's bilingual website, (mothsutra.com) where he reads his latest work, "MothSutra" on immigrant Chinese delivery men in NYC, was performed at the Black Box Theatre, The University of Hong Kong, and in New York City's Bowery Poetry Club.
