MLC Activity Highlights: Lunch Seminar Series – The History of Wireless Communication Technology

On 27th March 2019, Ma Man Kei and Lo Pak Sam College invited Prof. Weijia Jia, Chair Professor from the Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of Macau to give a lunch seminar entitled “The History of Wireless Communication Technology”. Prof. Jia began his talk by telling the story of King You in the Zhou dynasty lighted up the warning beacons to summon armies just to make Bao Si laugh. He said that this is the oldest form of wireless communication. Then he moved on to talk about the development of wireless communication technology, he showed the audience that mobile phones becoming smaller in size as technology advanced. Prof Jia explained that 5G networks can achieve much higher data rates than previous cellular networks because it operated in the near millimeter wave band. Lastly, he pointed out that 5G networks are expected to launch across the world by 2020.
