UM English Debating Team advanced into Quarter-Final in the Shanghai International Debate Challenge 2019

The Shanghai International Debate Challenge (SIDC) debate tournament was held at Shanghai International Studies University from both 26 Oct and 27 Oct 2019. The SIDC tournament is one of the largest tournament held in mainland China including over 200 participants coming from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea and other places. It also attracted debaters from top universities across the world including Cambridge University, University of Tokyo, Tsinghua University, Hong Kong University, etc.

The English Debating Team in University of Macau sent 4 teams to the SIDC 2019 tournament. Among them, Kelly Zhang Yi, a fourth-year undergraduate student majoring in Finance Controllership and Emon Zhou Yongyi, a third-year undergraduate student from the International and Public Affairs successfully broke into the quarter-final, and Kelly was the 7th best speaker while Emon was the 8th best speaker among more than 200 debaters. Besides that, Lau Kak Chi Cora Margaret and Sally Liang Xinyuan, two third-year undergraduate students majoring in English Study, advanced into the octo-final of SIDC 2019. Jimmy Lei Wanjun, Leona Shum Lok Yee, Sam Lam Chon Kit and Zac Tee Boon Zhie also had remarkable achievements in the tournament.
