Lui Che Woo College Organized Service Learning Trip to Thailand

During December 19th to 29th 2018, Lui Che Woo College organized the 4th service-learning trip to Thailand. Different from the past, this year, 3 students namely ZHAO YANG, PAN JIANWEN and CHEN XU, who joined the voluntary trip last year, served as student leaders and they organized the trip with a team of 10 independently.

Lui Che Woo college has organized trips to the northern village in Thailand named Karen for 3 consecutive years. This year, the project was to assist the local villagers to pave the road and teach Chinese both in the village and the local school. Through the project, students learned to appreciate the hard work of the construction workers and they became aware of the great importance of having a strong body. Meanwhile, voluntary teaching significantly enhanced students’ interpersonal skills. The content they taught, on the other hand, helped promoting Chinese culture.

Apart from the above two parts of work, students were invited by the village head to join the sports day in primary school, caroling on the Christmas Eve and the Christmas party in village, which provided a valuable chance for students to experience the local culture. In addition, the team visited the dam built by the LCWC students last year. It was exciting to see what was done is now benefiting the villagers.

All the participants state that this trip is very meaningful in terms of enhancing their team work skills, communication skills and inspiring their spirit of service. They understood it deeply now that they should not only focus on academic excellence but also other competencies towards a whole person. They hope to carry on the work and call for more people to join the service in the future.
