MCM College : Macao Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra

The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra two-night residency in Macao came as part of the 33rd Macao International Music Festival, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, held from 4th to 30th October 2019. This year’s Macao International Music Festival offers 17 programmes that share to public the beauty and grandeur of music.

The Vienna Philharmonic performances: Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with soloist Yuja Wang and Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 “From the New World”, captivated the audience with artistic brilliance and sophistication. Attending a performance by one of the world’s finest orchestras and rising star, students have expressed gratitude and joy of hearing these masters.

“I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to enjoy the performance of the Vienna Philharmonic. Rachmanioff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in D Minor Op.30 not only is one of his most prestigious works, but also recognized as a technically very difficult work of all piano concertos throughout the ages. Pianist Wang Yujia showed amazing piano skills and successfully performed this piece. I like the second movement of "From the New World" most. In this part, I resonate the infinite nostalgia.” – Cynthia Zhao

“This concert definitely is the most wonderful one that I have ever seen. It’s from the most prestige philharmonic in the world plus the outstanding young pianist that I admired. I cannot find a word to describe how exited I was to have such opportunity to enjoy the music from Vienna philharmonic and Wang Yujia. The first half, Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.3, I could not move my eyes from this passionate and energetic pianist even for a second. Throughout the whole concerto, I was not only impressed by her extraordinary skills but also her state of devoting her whole self into the music. For Dvorak Symphomy No.9, that was also a breathtaking performance. Being able to experience how beautiful music was be created by this wonderful orchestra, how the conductor conveyed idea to the players and how different instruments respond to each other perfectly, it was an awesome night!” – Milly Ke
