The 1st Annual Workshop in Cognitive and Brain Sciences of University of Macau 2019 was successfully held in the University of Macau campus on 21 Sep 2019 as an annual event in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. In the opening ceremony, both Rector Yonghua Song and Prof. Chengzhong Xu, Interim Director of Institute of Collaborative Innovation delivered welcoming speeches to guest speakers, academic members of the Centre for Cognitive and Brain Sciences (CCBS), students and other attendees.

The workshop aims to exchange on the novel achievements in the field of cognitive and brain sciences at the University of Macau. In particular, this workshop focuses on four aspects of all areas related to human neurosciences: addiction and decision making, brain and language cognition, child development/cognitive ageing/brain disorders, and neuroimaging. This is the first one of a new series of annual academic conferences exchanging on the achievements in the field of cognitive and brain sciences between Macau and mainland.

This Workshop was presided by Prof. Zhen YUAN, Interim Head of the Centre for Cognitive and Brain Sciences (CCBS). In 2018, the University made a strategic decision to establish a unique campus-wide centre, Centre for Cognitive and Brain Sciences, to harness and enhance the interdisciplinary research and educational skills of the entire university in cognition and brain sciences. With strong supports from UM, the Government of Macau, and the Central Government, it is expected that CCBS should be developed into glowing stars in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
