Choi Kai Yau College 5th Anniversary Presents: Voices of Guangxi Minorities
(February 25, 2019)

On the evening of February 25, 2019, a concert entitled "Voices of Guangxi Minorities" had been held at E31 successfully. As one of the activities celebrating the 5th anniversary of Choi Kai Yau College, the event attracted over a hundred audience in and outside the UM campus. The guest speaker and leaders of the performing group is Professor Su Yanling from the Guangxi University for Nationalities, who is also the national first-class actress of the People’s Republic of China.

In the concert, Professor Su and her group members performed songs of ethnic minorities from the Guangxi region; for example, the Grand song of the Dong ethnic groups in the “United Nations Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity” and "China National Intangible Cultural Heritage List." The folk songs were performed in people’s daily lives, distributed in the community, and authentically presented to the audience members at the concert. With no instrumental accompaniment, the songs involve singing in union, two parts, and even three parts. While Professor Su introduced every song before its performance, audience members would learn more about the intangible cultural heritage of China.

To celebrate its 5th anniversary, Choi Kai Yau College has organized a series of commemoratory activities, including the fellow’s talks, master lectures, and evening parties. For the latest information of the commemoratory activities, please refer to the College website: https://ckyc.rc.um.edu.mo.
