Dear colleagues,
In order to ensure the accessibility of information for people with visual impairment, the Committee for Student Disability Services strongly encourages all units to provide electronic information (e-bulletin, email, webpage, UMMoodle, etc) in text format. The text can be converted into audio output by a text-to-speech computer software, allowing people with visual impairment to listen to the information. However, the software cannot convert text embedded in an image format, e.g. jpg, gif.
For example, Welcome=> Though the text carries some formatting, it's still a text format, which
can be converted into audio output.
=> The text “Welcome” is embedded in an image file, which the software cannot convert into audio output. Therefore, please avoid presenting important information in an image file. If graphical presentation of information is unavoidable, you may use the alt attribute function, which allows you to specify alternative text for the image file by a text-to-speech computer software. Please click HEREfor the procedures to implement the ALT attribute function in HTML webpage. Please click HERE for the procedures to implement the ALT attribute function in UMMoodle.
