The UM English Speech Contest Performance 2019 was held successfully

UM English Public Speaking Team and English Language Center successfully held the UM English Speech Contest Performance 2019 at 7 pm on 19th March at Black Box Theatre in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. With the contest theme of ‘Environment and Humanity’, seven contestants made it to the final contest through the selection of preliminary contest. There were two rounds in the final contest, four-minute prepared speech and one-minute Q&A as well as a two-minute impromptu speech and one-minute Q&A.

After two-round selections, Amber, Zhang Xinyue, a first-year student from the Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) and a member of Henry Folk Pearl Jubilee College (HFPJC); Elcus, Chan Kin Chong, a first-year student from the Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) and a member of Henry Folk Pearl Jubilee College (HFPJC); Gifted, Gao Rui, a first-year student from the Faculty of Social Science (FSS) and a member of Stanley Ho East Asian College (SHEAC) and Lucia, Li Shiyu, a student from the Faculty of Education (FED) and a member of Chao Kuang Piu College (CKPC), won the Excellent Prizes. Alisa, Wan Yingjia, a second-year student from the Faculty of Education (FED) and a member of Cheong Kun Lun College (CKLC), won the title of Best Impromptu Speaker. Eventually, Amanda, a first-year student from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAH) and a member of Moon Chun Memorial College (MCMC), was the Second Runner-up of the contest; Alisa, Wan Yingjia, a second-year student from the Faculty of Education (FED) and a member of Cheong Kun Lun College (CKLC), was the First Runner-up; and Sandra, Dai Yinhang, a second-year student from the Faculty of Social Science (FSS) and a member of Shiu Pong College (SPC), was the champion of the final contest!

This activity fully trained the contestants' language expression ability and impromptu ability, The English Speech Contest Performance was attended by Mr. Kevin Mahe, Ms. Miranda Ma and Ms. Stephanie Bowles, senior instructors and instructor from English Learning Center; as well as Ms. Natacha Ilagan and Ms. Melody Xie, coaches of the English Public Speech team of UM and teaching fellow of English Learning Center. The comments from the judges won the applause of all the audience.
