UM’s Responsible Gambling campaign attains remarkable success
A closing ceremony was recently held for the Responsible Gambling 2019. The campaign was co-organised by the University of Macau (UM) Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming (ISCG), the Social Welfare Bureau, and the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau. During the ceremony, the ISCG released the results of a survey on the gaming activities of Macao residents in 2019. The results show that both participation in gaming activities and the prevalence of gaming disorders among Macao residents have been declining.
According to the survey, the percentage of Macao residents who have participated in gaming activities in the past year is 40.9 per cent, down about 10 per cent from 2016, while the incidence of gaming disorders among Macao residents has dropped from 2.5 per cent in 2016 to 0.8 per cent in 2019. Both figures are the lowest in their respective categories in the survey’s history, which is testament to the success of the Responsible Gaming campaign.
At the ceremony, 27 students in the Professional Certificate in Gambling Counselling (Macao) programme and 44 students in the Certificate in Macao Responsible Gaming Advisor programme received their certificates.
