CKYC participated in “Scientific Pursuit and Talent Nurturing in the Greater Bay Area” exchange program at Zhejiang University International Campus in Haining, Zhejiang

A delegation of 13 staffs and students from the Choi Kai Yau College (CKYC) of University of Macau (UM), led by Prof Kevin Zhen, Master of CKYC and Dr Yaning Qi, Residential Fellow of CKYC, participated in “Scientific Pursuit and Talent Nurturing in the Greater Bay Area” program at Zhejiang University (ZJU) International Campus in Haining, Zhejiang from June 3 to 9, 2019. This event was funded by the Ministry of Education of China, hosted by Zhejiang University International Campus Residential College (ZIRC), supported by Choi Kai Yau College of the University of Macau, and Lap-Chee College (LCC) of Hong Kong University (HKU).

The Opening Ceremony of the ZJU, UM and HKU Exchange Program and ZIRC Forum on Talent Nurturing and Innovation Development in the Greater Bay Area had been held in the Multimedia Hall, Zhejiang University International Campus on June 5. Prof. Lap-Chee Tsui, Master of ZIRC, and Prof. K. C. Ting, the Vice Dean of ZJU International Campus gave opening remarks on this forum. Later on, Prof. Yuen Man Fung, Master of LCC, Prof Kevin Zhen, Master of CKYC, and the Dean of ZJU International Business School, Academy of Internet Finance, Dr. Ben Shenglin had delivered keynote speeches regarding talent nurturing under the integration of Greater Bay Area and Yangtze River Delta. Students from HKU, UM, and ZJU also had dialogues with those keynote speakers in the panel discussion session.

A cultural exchange event - "Zongzi (Rice Dumpling) and Sachet Making" was successfully held in ZIRC with students and faculty members from three Universities on June 7, the date of Dragon Boat Festival. All participants had a fantastic experience of traditional Chinese culture. On June 9, this Exchange Program was successfully concluded in the HKU Shanghai Study Centre. Students from three Universities were divided into five groups to give presentations on topics about residential college system, innovation and entrepreneurship, Cultural exchange, the Greater Bay Area, and the Hangzhou Bay Area.

Through this exchange program, the CKYC students and staffs enhanced the learnings of the residential college settings and student life in other two Universities. The program also provided great culture experience for participants to learn traditional Chinese culture through the dragon boat festivals celebrations. What’s more, the program emphasized on deeper understanding of innovation and entrepreneurship development in Yangzi River Delta by visiting the IT giant Alibaba Group and the startup incubators in Shanghai. The students were impressed by the talent nurturing and science development in China. In addition, the students also compared the challenges and opportunities for both Yangzi River Delta and the Greater Bay area and discussed more possibility for future collaboration. This program broadened the horizons of UM students, promoted friendship between ZJU, HKU and UM, and also successfully strengthened the patriotism of Macao students, enhanced their senses of identity and belongings to the motherland.
