UM Cantonese Debating Team won the Championship of
Kiang Wu Cup Cantonese Debating 2019
On 9 Mar 2019, Kiang Wu Cup Cantonese Debating 2019 of Macau Colleges was held in Kiang Wu Nursing School of Macau, in which University of Macau (UM), Kiang Wu Nursing School of Macau, Macau University of Science and Technology and Macao Polytechnic Institute (IPM) participated.
UM and IPM were in the final round of the match on the first day. The topic of the final round was that the minimum penalty level of drug trafficking should be increased or not. IPM as the proposition had the position that it should be increased for better security of society of Macao, whereas UM as the opposition had the position that the current penalty is sufficient and it should be adjusted to the legitimate system. After the climactic battle, UM won this debate.
The UM team of this debate includes Sam Tong, a second-year student from faculty of Health Science (FHS) and a member of LCWC, Sit Ka Hou, first-year student from Faculty of Law (FLL) and a member of MLC, Cheang Iok Kuong, a second-year student from Faculty of Law (FLL) and a member of HFPJC and Ng Hou In, a first-year student from Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) and a member of CKLC. Among them, Ng Hou In won the Best Speaker. UM Cantonese Debate Team got the highest overall score and won the first place.
