UM team won the first place among all Hong Kong and Macau teams and advanced to the National Contest of the 2019 Deloitte Tax Championship

2019 Deloitte Tax Championship has attracted over a thousand participants from 72 top universities in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. A total of eleven universities from Hong Kong and Macau have participated in the Preliminary and Second Round Contest. The University of Macau (UM) team with four accounting students from the Faculty of Business Administration won the first place among all Hong Kong and Macau teams in the Second Round Contest and advanced to the National Contest in Chengdu at the end of October.

Professor Desmond Yuan, Head of the Department of Accounting and Information Management, said that with a flexible and pragmatic approach of teaching at UM, students learned to develop the business insight and the innovative mindset, which allowed the UM team to outperform others. He emphasized that the Department would continue to promote business simulation case teaching and focus on improving the comprehensive quality and practical ability of students.

Deloitte Tax Championship is an international competition organized by Shanghai Deloitte Tax Ltd. and Deloitte Tax Research Foundation for university students across the Greater China region. It aims at promoting collaborations among government agencies, academics, professional services providers, taxpayers, and developing professionals in the field of taxation. Deloitte Tax Championship includes 3 phases: Preliminary Contest, Second Round Contest, and National Contest.
