CAS expert gives talk on brain science at UM

The University of Macau (UM) today (20 March) held a talk titled ‘Visual Information Processing and Inference in the Brain Without Awareness’. He Sheng, a researcher at the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and director of the State Key Laboratory of Brain and Cognitive Science, was the keynote speaker. The event attracted over 300 UM faculty members, students, high school teachers, and members of the general public.

Prof He is a distinguished national expert and a professor at the University of Minnesota. He was the chairman of the International Conference on the Science of Consciousness. During the talk, Prof He discussed behavioural and brain imaging studies and provided answers to some intriguing scientific questions, such as ‘What information processing and control functions our brain performs without conscious awareness?’ and ‘Is there a clock in every human brain?’ He also discussed possible clinical applications of visual bistable perception in the diagnosis of mental illnesses.
