UM Cantonese Debating Team Placed First in “Zoom” for Friendly Competition with The Education University of Hong Kong
The two universities have carried out friendly competitions for many years, and this year, the competition is organised by University of Macau (UM) Cantonese Debating Team (UM CDT). Due to the unstable situation of the epidemic, and a response to the Macao SAR government’s prevention policies, both sides have agreed to carry out the competition in “Zoom”. This online competition overcomes the limits of the epidemic and space, allowing both universities situated in two difference places to debate and communicate with each other online for the first time.
The motion for the competition is “Hong Kong and Macao Should Implement Rent Control”, which has been a hot topic in recent years. The opposition team representing UM are made up of Mak Chi Chon, a first year student of Faculty of Law (FLL) and Choi Kai Yau College Sit Ka Hou, a second year student of FLL and Ma Man Kei and Lo Pak Sam College; Francisco Lai, a first year student of FLL and Ma Man Kei and Lo Pak Sam College; Ng Hou In, a second year student of Faculty of Business Administration and Cheong Kun Lun College. UM won over The Education University of Hong Kong with the score 3:0. Sit Ka Hou, the second speaker also received the Overall Best Speaker prize in the competition.
