Dear Students and Colleagues,
Macao SAR Government has been putting great emphasis and paying high attention on the issue of ‘Reduce waste at source’. Considering the overall considerations and the society’s views, and using the experience of neighboring regions as reference, Macao SAR Government will introduce the “Plastic bag charge” measure, in order to reduce the excessive use of plastic shopping bags through economic means. The aim is for a social environment of lesser plastic bags, and to progressively allow consumers to develop the habit of using their own shopping bags.
To promote this work, the law of “Restrictions on the provision of plastic bags” has passed in the Legislative Assembly on August 8, 2019, and the “Plastic bag charge” measure will take effect from November 18, 2019 onwards.
