Celebration of the 70th anniversary of the People's Republic of China and the 20th anniversary of the Macao Special Administrative Region: Second Forum of Thinkers discussing topics related to Macao
"The symbiosis of the republic of the diverse civilizations"

1. Purpose:
In the 21st century, along with the entanglement and distress of individualism and socialization, nationalism and internationalism, rationalism and warmth, the "globalized" world faces the confrontation and conflict of diverse civilizations. The question of how to lay down prejudice and realize that world civilization is composed of many countries and different nationalities, different civilizations are closely related and interconnected. Each civilization is a unique product, a carrier of republican symbiosis, and in turn builds a civilized mutual enjoyment. The new relationship is an issue that the academic community needs to seriously be considered. To that end, Centre for Chinese History and Culture, editorial office of South China Quarterly plans to hold the "Second Forum of Thinkers discussing topics related to Macao" , with topic of "The symbiosis of the republic of the diverse civilizations" on 24 - 27 October 2019, hoping to realize the understanding and communication between different civilizations through continuous efforts.

In this forum, 15 distinguished scholars are invited to discuss with the topics below:
1) The possibility of republican, sharing and symbiosis among diverse civilizations;
2) The path to reduce/avoid the "clash of civilizations" in the world;
3) Civilization, sharing, and symbiotic resources in the treasures of East and West wisdom;
4) Macao's experience in achieving integration and resonance after encountering and colliding with Eastern and Western civilizations.
