Opening Ceremony
"Kick-off" 2019 UM Sports Day

The “2019 UM Sports Day” was kicked off at N8 Sports Pavilion on 16 Oct. There were over 1,500 UM students, staff and alumni participated in the opening ceremony.

UM Sports Day is a signature annual event in our university and this year, it is jointly organized by the Office of Sports Affairs (OSA) and University of Macau Students’ Union Sports Association, Committee of Inter-College Affairs (CICA) as well as UM Staff Sports Club. There are altogether 17 sports events including Archery, Basketball, Badminton, Diabolo, Football, Fencing, Karate, Kinball, Rock Climbing, Rowing, Squash, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tchoukball, Tennis, Track and Field and Volleyball. The whole activity will last for 3 weeks until 9 Nov.
We are pleased to share that there are around 1,000 participants joining the competitions this year, including 700 student athletes, 80 staff athletes, 20 alumni athletes and 200 student working personnel respectively.

The opening ceremony started with the marching-in from the representatives of 16 sports sub-clubs of UMSU and CICA. An opening remarks was given by the Rector, Prof. Yonghua Song.
There were 11 officiating guests presided at the ribbon cutting ceremony, they were:
  • Prof. Yonghua SONG, Rector
  • Prof. Billy SO, Vice Rector (Student Affairs)
  • Mr. CHAN Iok Wai, Head of Department of Higher Education Students, Higher Education Bureau
  • Ms. Grace CHAU, Director of Office of Sports Affairs
  • Mr. Paul PANG, Dean of Students
  • Ms. Annie CHAN, Director of Office of Administration
  • Ms. Cindy LAM, Director of Alumni and Development Office
  • Mr. KOT Man Kam, President of the Executive Committee of UM Alumni Association
  • Dr. Water WONG, Representative of UM Staff Sports Club
  • Mr. Jacky LEE, President of Committee of Inter-College Affairs
  • Ms. Lily HUANG, Acting President of Sports Association, UMSU

The CICA Masters' Cup Cheerleading Competition from 10 RCs was held right after the opening ceremony. It was a very entertaining competition in which the evaluation was based on different aspects: Teamwork, Technique, Implementation, Creativity, and Use of Sound and Props. The results of CICA Masters' Cup Cheerleading Competition are shown as below:
  • Champion : Henry Fok Pearl Jubilee College
  • 1st Runner-Up : Choi Kai Yau College
  • 2nd Runner-Up : Lui Che Woo College
