UM Cantonese Debating Team held its training camp successfully

University of Macau’s Cantonese Debating Team (CDT) held its training camp from 16 - 17 February and a rookie debating match was held in this camp. Its main purpose was to allow CDT new members to gain more debating experience and increase sense of belongings for better preparation of debating contests in the future.

The topic of this match is “sex education should or should not be promoted in all primary and secondary schools in Macau”. Team A members were LAU IN TONG, a first-year student from Faculty of Social Science (FSS) and a member of Stanley Ho East Asia College (SHEAC); SAM TONG, a second-year student from Faculty of Health Science (FHS) and a member of Lui Che Woo College (LCWC); LEONG SIN MAN, a first-year student from Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) and a member of Choi Kai Yau College (CKYC) and SIT KA HOU, a first-year student from Faculty of Law (FLL) and a member of Ma Man Kei and Lo Pak Sam College (MLC). Moreover, for Team B members were LAM WENG MAN, a first-year student from Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) and a member of Henry Fok Pearl Jubilee College (HFPJC); CHEANG IOK KEONG, a second-year student from Faculty of Law (FLL) and also a member of Henry Fok Pearl Jubilee College (HKPJC); LI XIAOTONG, a first-year student from Faculty of Social Science (FSS) and a member of Stanley Ho East Asia College (SHEAC) and NG HOU IN, a first-year student from Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) and a member of Cheong Kun Lun College (CKLC).

Team A came up with the idea that the current cases of sexual crimes in Macao are on the rise with more and more teenagers involved. The promotion of sex education can be used to combat crime and maintain social stability. On the contrary, Team B held up the opinion that primary school students may not receive sex education effectively. The force of sex education promotion will only lead to negative results. Eventually Team B won the match with the result of 0:5. Moreover, CHEANG IOK KEONG , a second-year student from Faculty of Law (FLL) and a member of Henry Fok Pearl Jubilee College (HFPJC) was awarded with the Best Debater Award.
