“2019 International University and Youth Basketball Tournament”
The “2019 International University and Youth Basketball Tournament” was successfully held from 6-10 June at University of Macau. There were a total of 21 higher institution/invited basketball teams (16 men’s teams, 5 women’s teams) from 11 countries/regions participated in the tournament, including Mainland China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Macao.
The first game day was begun right after the opening ceremony on 7 Jun. UM men’s basketball team played against Wuyi University and finally UM beat Wuyi University 70-51. In the women's category, UM beat Ateneo de Manila University 83-77 and won the first game.
As results, men’s basketball team of Ateneo de Manila University and women’s basketball team of Huazhong University of Science & Technology have won the championship of Takchung Cup. As for the results of UM, men’s team has ranked second in group D and women’s team has won silver medal. For detailed results, please refer to the column "Competition Results".
After the final game of men’s basketball, award ceremony and closing dinner was held subsequently at UM Multi-Function Hall (N1) at night. All the teams were invited to attend, and all awards were presented to the awardees at the ceremony. In addition to the athletes, the coach and the referees also much enjoyed the night with lively atmosphere and good food.
It was one of the celebrating events for the 70th Anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and the 20th Anniversary of the Macao SAR. Moreover, it was first-ever event co-organized by Office of Sports Affairs (OSA) and University of Macau Alumni Association (AAAUM).
