“How to Sing Well?” Seminar by Prof. Sheng Mei at CKLC


On April 10, the famous cantante, CKLC Guest Fellow Prof. Sheng Mei provided a seminar on “How to sing well” at Cheong Kun Lun College. This seminar attracted a large turnout. Vice-Rector Prof. Ge Wei, Dean of Faculty of Business Administration Prof. Chen Jinghan, Master of Choi Kai Yau College Prof. Zhen Yong, Master of Cheong Kun Lun College Prof. Zhang Meifang, CKLC Senior Fellow Prof. Zhu Shoutong and CKLC Fellow Prof. Xu Minhui attended this event.

Prof. Sheng Mei is a famous cantante, who was instructed by the well-known melodist Prof. Jin Tielin. She is now Member of the National Vocality and Art Institution of China and Director of American Chinese Musicians Association. She was invited to present as Judge and Consultant at many international vocal music competition and festivals.

In her seminar, Prof. Sheng Mei offered a brief introduction of vocal music that touched on bel canto, folk singing, pop singing as well as original-style singing. She began with a brief singing lesson that taught students the singing techniques and emotional expression. Prof. Sheng Mei emphasized the importance of facial expressions and body movements that accompany the internal experience of emotion, and how to communicate that emotion to the audience. She then provided on-the-spot guidance to the audience. Her singing impressed everybody. Students said that seldom had they heard such beautiful singing. Dean. Chen was also invited to sing on the stage. Everybody were so absorbed in her singing, and clapped hands to the music. In addition, Prof. Sheng Mei introduced the knowledge of voice care.

At last, College Master Prof. Zhang Meifang ended the seminar by thanking Prof. Sheng Mei for providing such a wonderful seminar and for her accepting the invitation to serve as Guest Fellow at CKLC. She hoped that RC education could enhance student development to be well-rounded person with wide knowledge and interest.
