CKLC Activity Highlight: A Visit to Donor Family and an Educational Tour to Crowne Plaza Hotel

On April 10th, 2019, a group of CKLC students and staff, led by College Master Professor Zhang Meifang, visited CKLC donor family and had an educational tour to Crowne Plaza Hotel, one of the donor family’s companies. The visit aimed to strengthen the connection with the donor’s family and to show appreciation for their support to UM college education. In the meanwhile, the visit provided students with an excellent opportunity to explore the hospitality industry in Macao and broaden their horizon about future development. Altogether 28 CKLC students and staff members participated in this event.

Representatives from Crowne Plaza Hotel kicked off the visit by a briefing session introducing the development of the hotel, prospect of hospitality industry, and career development. After the introduction session, a tour was arranged to visit hotel facilities, back office, staff operational zone, and hotel suites, followed by an interactive buffet lunch with the donor’s family and hotel management team.

The highlight of this visit is the impromptu lecture presented by our donor Mr. Cheong Lok Tin. Mr. Cheong shared his life experience and his wisdom with our students. He encouraged students to seize every opportunity to learn, because all you have learned will be beneficial to your growth at some point in the future. Mr. Cheong emphasized the importance of soft skills, such as communication skills, leadership, which would be crucial for their success in workplace. Mr. Cheong also tried to inspire the students to set up long-term goals, to think big, and to chase dreams instead of focusing on salary and easy life when entering the society. The visit ended with a fruitful discussion and group photo-taking.

Student Lei Man Io reflected that the most impressive part of this visit is Mr. Cheong’s life wisdom sharing, which inspired her “to rethink about myself and my future”. Student Xu Xinzi echoed that Mr.Cheong’s impromptu lecture impressed her most as well. Students agree with Mr Cheong that it is difficult to predict what we are going to do in the future. But we should enrich our knowledge pool and get ourselves prepared, so that we can seize the opportunities when they arrive.
