MCM College European Union Lecture Series – Finnish Lessons: Welcome

MCM College invited Professor Vat Kam Hou, SPC Fellow and Senior Member of IEEE from Department of Computer and Information Science, as guest speaker of the European Union Lecture Series on Finland. With a warm welcome and contextual introduction from The Master of MCM College, Professor Kevin Thompson, Professor Vat shared with students Finland’s educational, cultural and geographic riches.

Through this, students discovered much about Finland; learning of the Midnight Sun and Aurora Borealis phenomenon; getting to know the term Sisu, which is integral to understanding Finnish culture; a work-life balance in Finland; and its topology, geographical and geological structure: that ranks it amongst one of the happiest countries in the world, for the third year in a row according to the Copenhagen-based Happiness Research Institute. More formatively, a Finnish educational system that focuses on lifelong learning is inspirational to almost all. Complimented with videos, students found the workshop informative and thoroughly researched.

The next European Union Lecture Series on Hungary, by Victoria Lesquoy, will be held on 11 November 2020. We welcome all who are interested in knowing more about countries in the European Union and European countries outside of the EU community.
