SPC’s English Table Highlights:
“The Art of The Flying Disc – Ultimate Frisbee”
English table is one of the many longitudinal programs in SPC, with the aim of providing a platform to improve spoken English for SPC students. There is a variety of interesting topics ranging from Gender Equality to Myers Briggs personality test and Love Languages. The highlight of this week is a foreign sports - Ultimate Frisbee.
The group had a brief introduction to the history and the rules of the game given by student leaders who went to the Overseas Summer Program in Eugene, Oregon, where they first learned about the non-contact sport. Members and tutors were split into two teams of 7 and engaged in a friendly match.
The activity was conducted in English. Members were given a chance to practice spoken English while having fun. Participants became more involved and enthusiastic as the game progressed and they had a better idea of how the sport should be played.
All of the English learning was done that day through understanding Ultimate Frisbee, as well as playing it. The activity thus departs from traditional learning in classrooms through lectures. It was turned into a fun game, going beyond the limits of ordinary learning methods by cultivating an encouraging environment for students to speak English with confidence.
