MCM College Henk Kraaijeveld Quintet from The Netherlands
An impromptu visit to MCMC by Henk Kraaijeveld (Vocalist/Songwriterr/Arranger) and Joan Terol Amigó (creative jazz drummer) of Henk Kraaijeveld Quintet from The Netherlands led to unexpected vocal improvisation in a GE Music class.
Henk Kraaijeveld, Vocalist, Composer and Lyricist, shared his vocal warm-ups with the class, inviting students to join in and participate, leading to an improvisatory session on “ scat” singing, accompanied by the Quintet’s creative jazz drummer, Joan Terol Amigó, on snare drums played with brushes.
The duo shared their individual, previous career paths - Law and Biology - with the students, encouraging them to follow their passion after graduation.
Henk kindly presented a CD of the Quintet’s latest album, “Passengers”, to MCMC, and GE Music students enjoyed listening to some of the tracks in succeeding classes.
Students expressed the hope that the Quintet can visit again in the future, to give a workshop on their improvisatory and compositional techniques, together with a performance at UM.
