MCM College: “So Far Yet So Close” Study Break

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the exam this semester is like none ever before. Students have to take online exams and face subsequent challenges of new exam format. While the students stay at home to prepare and sit for exams, it is necessary for them to take study breaks so that they can recharge their energy and become more productive. Moon Chun Memorial College’s master, Prof. Thompson always says to the students, “We care about you more than your GPA”. As a people-oriented college, the House Association was committed to break through the limitation of distance and cheer up the MCMers during the exam period.

This “So Far Yet So Close” study break activity kicked off on 4th May, 2020 and attracted 100 participants from Macau and Mainland China. When joining the activity, the participants left a message on the Cheer Up Wall of MCMC public Wechat platform to encourage and support each other. After receiving their messages, the House Association immediately sent French pastry coupon or fruits & nuts package directly to their home via mail or express delivery. To give the participants a little surprise, each refreshment was attached with a thoughtful card designed by the House Association and a warm greeting letter written by the college master. Upon receipt of the refreshments, participants took photos for memory and uploaded to their Wechat Moments to share their joy and happiness.

This activity received a lot of positive feedback from the participants. “ I think it is the power of cohesion.” said Iris Lam, President of House Association, “As one of the MCMers, I am so glad and a little bit touched when reading the participants’ encouraging messages on the Cheer Up Wall. I do feel that we are so far yet so close.” The college master, Prof. Thompson also mentioned in his letter, “Although we are spatially distant, we stand as one”. Last but not the least, he encouraged everyone with this motto, “ One for all, all for one”.
