‘Chance Favours the Prepared Mind’, UM English Debating Team is all powered up for the coming academic year with Summer Training Workshop
Summer brings happiness, brings excitement and most importantly, it brings time for us to prepare for the upcoming academic year. Seeing how pandemic lessened members’ training opportunity, University of Macau English Debating Team (UMEDT) arranged a series of workshops throughout the summer for members to practice debating. The Summer Training Workshop is held once or twice a week starting from 14th July on ZOOM.
The workshop consists of various sections, notably lecture, mock debate and Q&A interaction. Each workshop has their own theme or topic in relevant to motions that may be released in competitions. In this summer training workshop, other than the typical motions often seen like economics, international relations, UMEDT have also prepared some peculiar topics like philosophy, sports, Southeast Asian politics to diversify members’ knowledge base, as well as to better prepare them when they encounter various kinds of topics in competition.
Besides, invited judges are reputable debaters from all over the world, with prominent achievements in international tournaments. COVID-19 may have lowered the possibility of face-to-face meetings, but it had also opened another door, especially how UMEDT were able to earn this rare opportunity to invite world-class debaters as trainer.
