MCM College “Catching my own dream”

Dreamcatchers originate from the Ojibwa Native Americans. Authentic and traditional dream catchers are handmade and crafted from natural materials, and are used as talismans to protect people, usually children, from bad dreams and nightmares, and are sometimes referred to as the “Sacred Hoops”. They are round in shape, and the thread is arranged in a way that resembles a spider web.

Students first wrap the hoop by knotting the entire circumference and carefully measuring the distance between knots. This can get tricky and students will have to do it patiently with intense concentration. After weaving the loop, students complete their dream catchers with embellishment and decorations.

Dreams are stories and images that our minds create while people sleep. They can be fun or disturbing, entertaining or frightening, but most of the time, people forget their dream by the time they get out of bed. The making of dreamcatcher is a belief that it will filter through the good dreams and trap the bad ones, true or not, they now trap the beautiful memories when students help each other out in the making of the dreamcatchers.
