Abstract:
For decades, the European Union (EU) has been proud of its establishment of a prosperous single market and pioneer role in environment protection and development aid. The image of a Normative Power Europe and Market Power Europe has been at the core of the EU’s diplomacy. Since the 2008 global financial crisis, however, the Union has been challenged by series of crises. In 2020, the attack of Covid19 has posed another threat to the EU, especially to its solidarity and economic might. How has the external image of the EU been influencd by Covid19, as well as the consequential impacts of the Union’s role as a global player are important questions regarding to future of the EU. This empirical research employs comparative study of Chinese traditional media, public opinion, elite attitude and social media to answer the above questions.
