Moon Chun Memorial College invited Dr. Catherine Chan, Assistant Professor of History department, Faculty of Humanities, as the guest speaker to give a lecture on the history and culture of Macau. The lecture followed through four generations of a Macanese family—the Pereira family. Dr. Chan presented the audience with the Pereira family’s different stages of life in Portugal, Macao, Hong Kong and Britain, hence bringing out the social context of Macao from the 18th to early 20th century, as well as its influence on self-identity.
With Dr. Chan's sharing, students had a deeper and more thorough understanding of the evolution and development of Macao's history, as well as a new perception of personal self-cognition and identity. |
