Dear Students and Colleagues,

Earlier in the anti-epidemic period, our section has issued guidelines regarding campus air conditioning system usage. We suggested that air conditioners should be switched off and windows should be opened as well in order to improve indoor ventilation. We also carried out corresponding measures, such as increasing the proportion of fresh air of the air conditioning system, inspecting the public areas and the venues which are being used to ensure good indoor air circulation. The cleaning, disinfection and management of central air conditioning equipment have been strengthened too.

As the epidemic gradually subsides and the weather has been getting hot, most of our colleagues may turn on the air conditioner to maintain a comfortable temperature in the office. However, if windows are kept open, it will degrade the cooling effect of the air conditioner and cause unnecessary energy consumption. Thus, we suggest that colleagues should refer to the following guidelines whenever the air conditioning equipment is used:
  • Avoid using air conditioners if possible, but open the windows to allow indoor air circulation;
  • if the air conditioner is turned on, all windows must be closed. Always keep the temperature of the air conditioner at 25 degrees Celsius or above;
  • the air conditioning temperature of all public areas has been preset at 25 degrees Celsius or above already and any change is not allowed. If necessary, please contact the Energy Section to make the adjustment.

In order to make sure that colleagues and students may use air-conditioning equipment in a comfortable and healthy way, we will continue to carry out regular cleaning and disinfection of the air conditioning system on campus. For any enquiry or assistance, please contact us at ext. 8753 or send email to es_hvac@um.edu.mo.

Thank you for your kind attention.
