Minister of science and technology visits UM and praises the university for its research development

A delegation led by Wang Zhigang, minister of science and technology of China, today (28 March) visited the University of Macau (UM) and was warmly received by UM University Council Chair Lam Kam Seng, Rector Yonghua Song, and Vice Rectors Lionel Ni and Ge Wei. Lam thanked the ministry for its continuous support to UM. According to Lam, UM will continue to strengthen scientific research, collaboration with industry and research institutes, as well as the training of high-calibre professionals. The university will also increase collaboration with neighbouring regions, take full advantage of the strengths of the Greater Bay Area, and promote the development of technological advances. Song told the guest about UM's current status and its campus development. According to Song, UM will make the most of Macao’s strengths and respond to the needs of China by grasping opportunities brought by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and creating more platforms for technological advances. The delegation praised UM for its research and academic achievements. The guests also visited UM’s three state key labs, namely the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine (QRCM Lab), State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI (AMS-VLSI Lab), and the State Key Laboratory of the Internet of Things for Smart City. Wang praised UM’s research achievements in the areas of Chinese medical sciences, IoT applications for smart cities, and microelectronics.
