Introduction of UMCO
UM Chinese Orchestra

Founded in 2010, University of Macau Chinese Orchestra (UMCO) is now the largest among all Chinese orchestras of universities and colleges in Macao. Aiming at promoting the Chinese music in Macao, UMCO has been delivering high-level Chinese music performances to students in University of Macau and to the Macao community. Supported by Macau Cultural Affairs Bureau, UMCO has the honor to invite professional instructors from Macau Chinese Orchestra to make an unceasing progress among members. Also, the great potential for Chinese music in UM makes it possible for UMCO to develop in a high speed. The orchestra is currently having near 40 members from different majors and grades, constituting a complete structure of a perfect Chinese orchestra. Having Mr. Zhuang Jiepai, who is from Macau Chinese Orchestra as the conductor, UMCO plays a significant role enriching campus life for UM students. Besides the two regular special concerts held on campus every year, UMCO also communicate closely with other universities, including Chinese orchestras from Ocean University of China, Peking University, Tsinghua University, National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University. During the exchange activities, UMCO held concerts with other orchestras and visit universities at home and abroad. The abundant activities and concerts help us to gain more experiences and enable us to deliver performances of higher level to students in University of Macau, and to the Macao community.
UM String Orchestra

The University of Macau String Orchestra (UMSO) was established in January 2010. It consists of undergraduates and postgraduates of the University of Macau and there are currently 40 members. In order to provide members professional training to improve their techniques and performance level, orchestra makes its best to offer various musical platforms for UM string enthusiasts to perform and exchange music knowledge. It also aims to build up members’ friendship, through of these training and performances. In addition, the Orchestra also aims to promote the art culture on campus, letting UM students appreciate the diversity of music and promote the development of local stringed music.
UM Dance Troupe

The University of Macau (UM) Dance Troupe was established in October 2014. UM Dance Troupe aims to enrich the dance culture in UM and provide high-quality of performance for all UM members. From the previous years, the UM Dance Troupe has played an important role in promotion dance culture in the campus; we participated in different kinds of performances and events. In March 2015, the first showcase – “Dance Painting” brought a lot of joy and surprise to the campus.

Choir of Tsinghua University Student Art Troupe

Founded in 1912, Tsinghua University Student Art Troupe is the earliest and oldest student art troupe among others in Tsinghua University. Currently, the choir’s director and resident conductor is Ding Yi. Consisting of more than a hundred Choir members, their performances include chorus, duet, folk songs, opera and solo. The choir has participated in competitions and performances in Sweden, the United States, Singapore and various regions of the country, wining numerous awards in national and international competitions.

Chinese Orchestra of Tsinghua University Student Art Troupe

Chinese Orchestra of Tsinghua University was founded in 1924. The orchestra is committed to popularizing national music and folk music on campus and enriching students' extracurricular cultural life. The Orchestra today is a student art troupe that integrates many elements such as performance, teaching, cultural exchange etc. It has a complete structure and an array of performance styles. The orchestra regularly holds special and salon concerts, and has visited the United States, Greece, Singapore and other regions of the country. The orchestra won the first prize of the National College Student Art Performance Instrumental Group in 2005 and 2012, and in 2018 won the Beijing College Student Instrumental Music Festival Performance Gold Award.

Dance Team of Tsinghua University Student Art Troupe

Dance Team of Tsinghua University Student Art Troupe was founded in 1947. Since its establishment, it has created and performed many outstanding plays that reflect the spirit of the times and promote Tsinghua culture. It has participated in celebrating the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the 40th anniversary of the reform and opening-up of China and a series of major national celebrations. It has won numerous awards in national university student art shows and Beijing university student art shows. Nowadays, the dance team has more than 90 members, mainly performing classical dance, folk dance, and modern and contemporary dance. Xing Gaoxi and Zhang Wei both graduated from Beijing Dance Academy were hired as their instructors.


Wenqin National Orchestra of Zhejiang University

The Wenqin National Orchestra of Zhejiang University was established in 2001. It is now the largest non-professional Chinese Orchestra in Zhejiang and the first art troupe outside of Beijing invited by the National Grand Theater to perform. The resident director, Zhou Yiru is a member of the Chinese Musicians Association, a member of the China National Orchestral Association, and the Deputy Secretary-General of the China Conducting Professional Committee. There are about 70 members in the orchestra now. The Orchestra has represented Zhejiang University for cultural and artistic exchange tours to the United Nations, Russia, Hong Kong, Macau, Beijing, Australia, Japan, the United States, Germany, Taiwan and other places, and has participated in provincial and national competitions many times. The had once won champion of a national-wide competition.

**Student participants of concert will be awarded SAO SMART POINT and 5 PGH points!

1. Students who attend the WHOLE activity and arrive ON TIME will be given one SAO Smart Point and PGH Point
2. Students who arrive late or leave early within 10 minutes will be given only half a SAO Smart Point and PGH Point
3. Students who arrive late or leave early over 10 minutes will NOT be given any SAO Smart Point and PGH Point
4. Students who leave the venue during the activity for over 15 minutes will NOT be given any SAO Smart Point and PGH Point
5. Students are required to check in/out of the activity with Student ID Card. For those who do not respect the activity or neglect the staffs guidance, Student Affairs Office
reserves the right to cancel his/her SAO Smart Point and PGH Point.

*同學遲到或早退少過十分鐘將獲得半粒SAO至叻星及研究生宿舍積分

*同學需要於進場時出示學生證登記;若同學不尊重活動場合或不遵守工作人員的指示,學生事務部有權取消其獲得SAO至叻星的及研究生宿舍積分
